Latin Lawyer: Brazil’s Motta, Fernandes Rocha Advogados has absorbed Stacchini Advogados

Brazil’s Motta, Fernandes Rocha Advogados has absorbed Stacchini Advogados, a small boutique firm specialised in technology and IP law as part of a move to set up a technology and digital law practice.

New partners Fernando Stacchini and Renata Ciampi joined the firm on 1 November. They will be accompanied by one attorney, who is currently on secondment at a client's offices and one trainee. While they are unable to name specific clients, some of those on Stacchini Advogados’ books will be accompanying the partners to Motta Fernandes.

Motta Fernandes founding partner Luiz Leonardo Cantidiano says that the hires were made as part of a bid to tap into relevant market opportunities. “Fernando and Renata are very active in the technology law area, which is in full growth nowadays and has synergy with what we do in Motta Fernandes,” he explains.

Motta Fernandes approached Stacchini and Ciampi directly, in line with the firm’s plans to develop a practice area focused on technology and innovation, digital and internet law, IP and related issues. Stacchini, who was a partner at Koury Lopes Advogados until 2005, says they decided to take up the offer in order to meet client demand for a wider range of legal services. “Our objective is to fulfill the needs of current clients in our areas of practice as well as to develop new clients,” he explains.
